although not recommended, if you are going to strip off an option you can do so manually. however, i recommend sticking with the presets under the first tab. although winreducer is a great option, please bear in mind that you should only use it as a last resort to reduce the size of your windows installation. the program should be used to try and understand windows, and not as a “quick and easy way” to install windows. always go through the windows user guide and read the operating manual that came with your system.
the installer included with the winreducer software is pretty basic, and will require that you download and install some other software to be able to use the winreducer software. although not essential, there are a few tweaks available that can help the winreducer software. for example, you can change your preferred language on the main menu of the winreducer software. it’s good to check to see if windows can detect your preferred language before using it.
if you have no windows iso of your own, go to the winreducer website and download some from winiso.net a windows iso file is the format for storing an installation of windows. you can use this to create an installation of windows, or an installation of windows with fewer options. you can also use the winreducer to reduce size of an existing windows iso.
the windows.old files have a lifetime that can last almost a week. they get in the way of some of your actions and limit your ability to go back and change your actions, thanks to the enormous number of files available in them. thankfully, there is a way to rid of them. this is an easy process and i have written about it elsewhere.
another quick step, burn this iso to disc. then right click the winreducer window and select “view source”. youll see a place to specify which file extensions to reduce and which options to reduce. this is done very simply.
now you have to find whatever program makes the windows installer iso images. in my case, this was not a standard windows iso, but was a bit-streamed iso created by our company’s software solution vendor. in this case, i simply went to the vendor’s website and downloaded the iso version they had.
next, we need to find the.wim file that the installer is in. usually you can find it in a zip file with a bunch of other files. for us, the windows 8 isos were being produced by a third party vendor, so the main iso files were in a zip file. i opened it up with windows archive software, and the main installer iso file was named after my vendors.wim file name.
this line was a bit tricky, because the file wininstall.wim isnt actually on the iso at all. it is on the computers hard drive. to get the proper file, the “winfolderiso” part of the line has to be removed and replaced with the iso filename. a true iso has a.iso extension while a true.wim file has a.wim extension. so the answer is:
